What is the state of today's journalism in the world? What I observe in the daily news
is a state of dissipated anxiety which turns to negativity and contradicts objectivity
that is supposed to be the hallmark of decent journalism. Since we are humans, we are incapable of total objectivity: we have to rely on our perceptions and our subjectivity
to report whatever is going on in today's world. But, on the other hand, with political
reporting, a journalist deals with political figures and the manner in which he or she phrases the reporting or questions will influence, not to say determine, his/her
interlocutor's response. That is one point. If the reporting is left to ambiguity or
dissipates an apparent anxiety and/or fear behind it, then the viewer's response
will also be influenced by this kind of journalistic reporting. So, both from the journalist's and the viewer's perspectives, a lack of equilibrium between an objective
and a subjective and humanist approach will undermine a realistic journalism.
You might object to my point of view by saying that we live in uncertain times
and justify today's mainstream journalism. Then, I would answer that the truth
behind reporting tainted by negativity tends to elicit this kind of response both from
politicians and neo-strategists who are more intent in statistical "certainties"
that are utterly temporary. Our world is in transition and b e c o m i n g
more objective with the development of science and AI that will eventually
bring us closer us to the scientific threshold of objectivity in the future.
