Close Reading

The close reading of a text enables us to think through the implications
of the writer and expand our empathy with the writer and enter
the philosophy of the text. Furthermore, I think that a close reading allows
for suggestions and even hypotheses which would be impossible
to formulate if we were to scan through a text. Although rapid reading
gives us the main ideas of a text, a close reading stimulates our capacity
to think, analyze, and think further about the connections with other texts.
