Modern Psychoanalysis

I think that one of the greatest contributions of psychoanalysis
has been and continues to be the knowledge of oneself which
augments one's self-awareness and that of others. Although
it takes long years to acquire self-knowledge, in PA it is realised
through transference. It is the relation that is established
between the analyst and the analysand that self-knowledge
is realised by transcending repression and the defences
that we have built during all our years to be able to contain
our frustrations and unsatisfied desires. We still keep our
defence system after P-A but we are better able to cope
with our frustrations and can lower our defences to be
able to sublimate them into an artistic or scientific
activity. Thus, our energy can freely circulate within
our mind which, I think, is one clear definition of
creativity.
