Is speaking about oneself and one's experiences considered to be of the confessional
style in poetry or can it be regarded as the poet's idiosyncratic lyrical writing which
reflects the poet's life-experiences? Confessional poetry sounds old-fashioned
to our post-modern sensibilities. Yet, how can a poet be authentic if he/she does
not voice his/her lived experience which is part of the poet's lived, thought about,
and felt existence? These are important issues for a literary identity. I think that
the poetic voice is shaped by an elaborated existential experience which can be
expressed in a lyrical voice.
