Symbol Formation

I think that symbol formation is part of intelligence because through symbols we develop
the ability to think in abstract terms and to coalesce the essential properties of things
into one abstract entity that is a symbol. I also think that children should be taught how
to form symbols as they grow by learning the properties of things by describing them
in their detail and speaking about them. They can asked about these properties by adults
and their observations can be directed so as to add up to a symbol which can, then,
represent the talked about and observed object. These learning practices should be
started very early in the child who is made aware of the world surrounding him which
he learns to observe and describe as he grows up.
