I recently reviewed an important poet's work. His name is Ben Mazer. He is an
American poet, discoverer and editor of old texts in their first publications.
I think that one of the most important features of book reviewing is objectivity
which is quite difficult in poetry because we, as readers, project our feelings
and perceptions into the poetic text and empathize with the poet. Thus,
we internalize the poet's thoughts and emotions. As alert readers,
we are placed between projection and internalisation but must find ways
of attaining objectivity to evaluate the text metaphorically and from
the literary viewpoint as well as considering the referential allusions
of the text. The creative combination of all these factors gives the book
its unity and the reader the freedom to partake in the creative process
of the author.
