A Friendly Reunion
Today I met with two writer friends, one who lives in France
and the other who visited from New Zealand. Sue came to Saas Fe
in Swiss Alps to attend a workshop on art therapy. We had a discussion
the value of art therapy and the differences between art therapy and
therapeutic writing. The latter is used to alleviate addictive disorders
like smoking and drug usage and has proven to be an effective way
of withdrawal. It was statistically demonstrated that therapeutic writing
based on life-experience alleviates the withdrawal symptoms as well.
We also spoke about to what extent poetry writing can help resolve
intrapsychic problems which was one of the themes of my dissertation
in which I came to the conclusion that it can do so only partially. A really
nice day under a lovely sky.
