Two weeks ago, we had a Stanza Meeting with local poets in which we read,

discussed, and critiqued our poems. We spoke about the importance of line

breaks in free verse and how they can change the meaning and shape of the poem.

We spoke about concision, continuity, and imagery in a prose poem. Continuity

and/or the use of spaces in the poem became important issues for reader-response.

We also spoke about the consistency of poetic images to build strong metaphors.

We discussed ekphrastic poems which brought out many issues : should the poet

mention the source of the image in the poem or in the title, what is the part of

personal projection and the role of the artist's artwork, what content can be

voiced within the span of an ekphrastic sonnet, and finally, which out

of the three couplets best fits the poem's content. We wrapped up with

excellent wine from France, a variety of cheese, and veggies, and a succulent

pear pie. Happy Holidays to all!
