A Modern Parable
I have just finished a wonderful parable by Paulo Cuelho
called "The Alchemist". In it, the author relates the initiation
of a young shepherd into the mysteries of the world as seen
by the alchemists. In the alchemist vision which is very close
to Jung's Collective Unconscious concept, the Soul of the World
is there to be discovered by those who believe in it so that
they be connected to the Universe and the natural elements
like the wind, the air, the sea or the desert, and the animals.
The young shepherd, after going through several rites of
initiation, succeeds in being connected to the Soul of the World
which intuits his quests and accompanies him wherever
he goes, whatever he does.
