During my reading today, I felt that I had the complete attention of my audience.
This reciprocal attention is a great feeling of togetherness and a booster of concentration
during a reading. I felt that I could establish an eye-contact with my listeners
who were moved by the rhythm and meaning of my poetry. After the reading,
many questions concerning poetry writing, editing, revision, and significance
were asked which showed the authentic interest of the audience. I felt I accomplished
a good reading because incited the curiosity of my listeners, some of whom were
fellow-poets. After an hour and a half and many questions, there was silence.
A friend who is an opera singer said she felt we were all connected. That's the power
of poetry.
